Owning a business can be exhilarating & rewarding. But at times, the reality can be overwhelming & frustrating when we are unsure of the right choice to make or whether to continue to follow through on the choices we have already made.
I’ve made some great decisions over the years. And, I’ve made mistakes. But, how can we make those hard choices that best fit our studio?

Making Resolutions That Stick

Resolution That Stick

Every year, I find that I have 2 New Year’s.  One begins in September & goes through the academic year.  The other follows a more ‘grown-up’ route of starting in January.  Both lead to many resolutions & ideas.  Both are instrumental in my growth professionally & personally.  And the only way I found to make…

Last week, Jennifer was back for the second installment of “Just Ask Jennifer”. During this short (15 minute) Facebook Live session, Jennifer answers questions that teachers have submitted. And, while I enjoyed the first session, I found this last week’s focus on lesson planning to be very timely.

A Groovy Kind of Morning

This morning was a whirlwind of activity at the house. After ensuring everyone here was ready for a morning filled with learning, I was glad when I finally got to sit down with my tea & listen in on experts sharing great ideas for teaching theory, reading, technique, & artistry in playing.
It was wonderful to start off with “Groove Your Theory” & move into “Rote Teaching in the Development of Reading, Artistry and Technique”. What did I learn?

My teaching community: Finding support in a solitary career

This week, I was struck by how fortunate we are to live in a time when it so easy to collaborate & ask for help from other educators from around the world. Especially when, as much as I love teaching piano, it can be a very solitary career. We spend lots of time with students, but not necessarily a lot of regular time with other professionals. Here are some of the inspirational & thought-provoking podcasts, blog posts & Facebook groups that really struck a chord with me this week. I hope that they prove to be just as useful for you!
