This month has been all about getting ready for recital season & part of that may be giving gifts to your students or families. There is something about giving families a thoughtful present that lets them know how much they are appreciated.
But with all the tasks involved in putting on a recital (let alone helping students prepare their repertoire beforehand), combined with end of year assessments/reviews, & keeping students engaged when they are more likely wanting to be outside … well, those gifts may just seem like more work than they are worth.

When I was younger, I performed all the time & found it quite easy. Yes I got a bit nervous, but nothing that held me back. However after a long break from playing piano in public, I have a whole new understanding of how many of my students have felt … at least for their first recital.
Chances are your studio is already well into recital prep. Students are learning or mastering new repertoire, you are working out the last details on the program, & parents are checking their calendars to ensure they will get their budding performers to the venue on time.

Our year-end recital is in T-minus 8 days & I am in full-on prep mode! It’s a busy time of year for everyone & there are a lot of things to get ready beforehand. So, after I realized (once again) that my stressing wasn’t solving anything … I made a list! And, then I got the biggest items done over the first week. I was crazy tired by the end, but I am quite sure my shoulders dropped a good 3 inches. Here is the list of projects I am working on as well as where to get everything you need to be recital ready for your studio.
